Anthony Gordons Goal Which Survived A Var Review Was Enough To Secure Arsenal All Three Points Against Newcastle At St James Park

Newcastle United 0-2 Arsenal: Gunners keep Premier League title hopes alive with win

Anthony Gordon's goal, which survived a VAR review, was enough to secure Arsenal all three points against Newcastle at St James' Park.

The result moves Arsenal back into the top four, while Newcastle remain in 11th place.

Arsenal started brightly and took the lead in the 16th minute when Gordon fired home from close range after good work from Bukayo Saka. Newcastle almost equalised just before half-time, but Miguel Almiron's effort was ruled out for offside by VAR.

The second half was a more even affair, but Arsenal held on to their lead to secure a vital three points. The Gunners now sit fourth in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester United and three points behind Manchester City. Newcastle remain in 11th place, seven points off the top four.

After the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: "I'm really pleased with the performance today. We controlled the game for long periods and created some good chances. We defended well and kept a clean sheet, which is always important."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: "I'm disappointed with the result, but I'm proud of my players. They gave everything they had out there. We created some good chances, but we just couldn't find the back of the net."
